That sounds like a problem created by the cable industry itself. The idea that cable card is inferior is bullsh*t. This isn't new stuff. This is technology they control. 2-way cable has been around since the 70s.

If cable card isn't "good enough" it's because the industry actively sabotaged it.

The funny thing is that we already have a suitable super food in this area. Creating it did not require Frankenstein style genetic meddling. It has just as long of a shelf life as bananas if not greater. It's especially easy to preserve for long periods.

Of course it has the sin of being something you can't patent or get a monopoly on.

Clearly you have a problem with the English language. Or perhaps it's just the "1984" mentality that infests the Apple hive mind.

A special key that sits on an external peripheral is not a "physical CD eject button". It's not even a proper electronic switch mounted on the device. It's just another key on the keyboard that you HOPE some intermediate software will take as a hint to eject the CD.

Fanboys go to interesting lengths to twist reality to suit their brand fixation.

Unless you want to pirate everything and use protocols that announce your actions to the world, the most reliable method of data acquisition is still physical media. It's also the most reliable way to ensure that you have access to your stuff wherever you happen to be.

The "lets-force-you-to-download-this-each-and-every-single-time sttreaming services go to crap as soon as there is the slightest network hiccup.

The problem with digital "sales" is that they aren't really a sale. They are effectively an extended rental. That rental can be revoked at any time and your entire collection can be made to go away.

That said, what is going to kill physical media is the availability of cheap subscription options. If something can be had on Netflix for $8 it makes little sense to pay $20 or $60 for the DVDs.

The comparison between physical media and expensive pay per view services is another matter though. Streaming doesn't have an obvious price advantage.

Plus there's the question of whether or not what you want is on ANY streaming service.

A company does not have to stand completely alone in the marketplace in order to have a dire impact on things. The usual villain here is Walmart. They have been abusing suppliers long before Amazon got in the act.

The fact that I can choose one titan over another doesn't alter the fact that either can distort the market to a degree that's dangerous for the free market in general.
