Dice hates its userbase

This is the real problem, in both reddit's and /.'s case. These 'business-people' have no idea of how a community works, what free-speech actually is and they cannot understand any behavior that is not selfish. The very fact that people are ready to volunteer time and effort into a community they love is confusing to them. They think that people like this are idiots. They hate them. They just want to monetize the phenomenon as much as they can and get out of this crap.

Nexus 7 only allows you to delay the update. But after a hard cut-off date, the update *will* happen. I learned that the hard way when I didn't allow it to update and it turned on cellular data and downloaded a gigabyte of updates that didn't amount to any improvements, and charging me money too.

Submission + - Video content RANT!

ragtoplvr writes: How hard can it be to give us a text option. For example, I would like to learn more about Bernie Sanders. Much of his latest content is video only. I am sure like a lot of slash dotters I read much faster than people talk. I do not care what he sounds like, what he looks like, I want to know his thoughts. I DO NOT want to sit thru some slow paced video to hear them. I want to read them at my speed. Is that so hard? No.

This is truly tragic. A multi-process firefox will make me ditch chrome so fast that google's ai bots won't know what hit 'em.

Sadly, though, while /. is a shadow of its former self, it's still better than any of the alternatives.

I do agree that /. is a shadow of its former self, but I can't quite put my finger on it. What makes it less fun now than ~2-5 years ago? As long as I avoid the occasional switch to beta, the site itself seems fine. Although maybe the comments have dried up a bit. But I dunno why.

Submission + - New leaked build is evidence that Windows 10 will be ready by July 29 (windows10update.com)

Ammalgam writes: A new pre-released build of Microsoft’s latest Operating System Windows 10 leaked to the internet today. The build (10151) shows a more refined and significantly faster user interface than previous versions of the product. Microsoft seem to be focused on last minute refinements of the UI at this point and the product looks almost ready for prime time. A picture gallery of Windows 10 build 10151 can be found here.
