An anonymous reader writes: Hackers might have accessed up to 25,000 e-mail addresses and 350 résumés during an attack on game developer Eidos Interactive’s websites, parent company Square Enix said Friday.

The security breach, which Square Enix said occurred Wednesday, could have given hackers access to user data for the Deus Ex: Human Revolution website, as well as résumés submitted by job applicants to Eidos.

According to a report by former Washington Post writer Brian Krebs, the official Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Eidos websites were inaccessible Thursday morning. During this period, hackers reportedly put up a banner that read “Owned by Chippy1337.”

The hackers, Krebs wrote, said they plan to distribute the stolen information on file sharing networks. His report pegs the volume of information stolen, according to the hackers, to be the personal information of more than 80,000 users and 9,000 ésumés.

A recent Ars Technica report suggests there might be discord among members of hacking collective Anonymous, centering on a 17-year-old British hacker named Ryan. According to a chat log uncovered by Krebs, the Eidos hackers attempted to frame Ryan for the attack.

RedEaredSlider writes: NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter has found a giant buried deposit of dry ice, which could be evidence that Mars once had a thicker atmosphere and was able to have more water on its surface.

The orbiter's ground-penetrating radar found the dry ice, which is frozen carbon dioxide, near the planet's south pole. The scientists think that when Mars' axial tilt increases, the carbon dioxide turns into a gas, thickening the atmosphere. The result would be more intense dust storms, but also a wider range of areas where liquid water could exist.

Apparently Sprint have embedded a secret application called Carrier IQ which have full control over the phone and everything the user does with it.
It even monitors input, which essentially means; Sprint have full access to your passwords, your banking accounts and your corporate secrets.
Encryption and SSL is a worthless defence, Sprint and Carrier IQ sees your information BEFORE it is protected.

The question is now, how many other carriers uses this rootkit? Does it exist on iPhone? Blackberry?

Ever since the November launch of Kinect for Xbox 360, enthusiasts and academic researchers alike have expressed their excitement and intense interest in the possibilities created by the products ability to enable users to bring games and entertainment to life without using a controller.

While Microsoft plans to release a commercial version at a later date, this SDK will be a starter kit to make it simpler for the academic research and enthusiast communities to create rich natural user interfaces using Kinect technology.

Seems like they took impression from the hackers and embraced their movement!

Now I only wonder who is going to implement Kinect controll into Media Portal and XMBC?

Trailrunner7 writes: There's a new Android based Trojan called HongTouTou (aka ADRD Trojan) that is packaging itself in popular Android apps and delivering itself through app markets and Chinese forums.
The Trojan is requesting additional permissions from users and may also be executing search related activities under the radar, including keyword searches, the company warned.

Lookout, a mobile security vendor, said it has identified 14 instances of the malware repackaging itself in various wallpaper apps and specifically in the popular game, RoboDefense, made available in alternative application markets. The trojan works by duping an infected app into sending encrypted data containing the device’s IMEI and IMSI to a remote host. HongTouTou then receives a set of search engine target URIs and search keywords to send as queries. It then uses these keywords to emulate search processes, creating searches in the search engine yielding the top results for those keywords and clicking on specific results. To the search engine, the searches appear to be coming from a mobile user using a mobile web browser with User-Agent corresponding to the UCWeb browser.

Apparently members of the US Congress brought pressure to bear on Amazon and they succumbed. The US Constitution's First Amendment, which governs official actions of the government but not private actions, was mentioned as a protection for Wikileak's recent publication of embarrassing documents.
