There was also the rather nasty issue with the thrust reverser deploying mid-air on the 767, which turned out to be a flaw in the 767's control systems, rather than in the engines.

And McDonnell-Douglas had the lovely little issue that was a contributing factor in the GottrÃra crash, even though it was glossed over by NTSB and Haverikommissionen, namely the Automatic Thrust Restoration system. SAS ordered the planes without ATR. Simulators arrived with manuals that didn't have ATR included. Planes were delivered without ATR mentioned in the specs, and no cockpit controls for ATR. Manuals delivered with the planes mentioned ATR however. SAS sent inquiries to McDonnell-Douglas, asking about the discrepancy between the plane manuals and simulator manuals, and were told that the simulator manuals were correct, since SAS had ordered the planes without ATR. Yet, the planes had ATR automatically enabled, without any cockpit controls for it, SAS had been told that the planes were delivered as ordered without ATR. Yet NTSB and Haverikommissionen blamed them for inadequate training in that regard(the training was inadequate in other areas).

So yeah, there's a long history of nasty flaws like that.

Elite and Civ certainly deserves to be in there before Quake. Elite due to the procedural generation, simulation etc that is still relevant even today, all without sacrificing gameplay. Civ likewise raised the bar for simulation aspects that did not impair gameplay, and also had some nifty tricks up its sleeve.

Meanwhile, very few things about Quake were really worth the hype. Underworld came out with a full 3D environment with limited 6DOF ability already in 1992, and Descent beat Quaketo the punch with a full 3D 6DOF environment by more than a year IIRC, yet even today Quake hucksters try to proclaim Quake as the first FPS to have that. What spread Quake wasn't technical excellence or its rather lacklustre gameplay. It was purely the name iD Software due to Doom and Doom II. So, some technical iteration over the competition, and lacklustre gameplay makes for a game that doesn't really fit into the hall of fame, especially since the Arena FPS style is almost dead nowadays. Meanwhile, Elite and Civ style games keep flourishing, as do Underworld style First-Person RPG's.

That's not what he said. However, in the vast majority of cases, even when factoring in transmission losses, running one or two large power plants can be made more efficient and less polluting(unless someone deliberately cuts corners for example) than if you run hundreds or thousands of smaller diesel generators such as in locomotives. Also, with electrified railway networks and locomotives, you can feed electricity recovered from regenerative braking back into the power grid. The Iore locomotives trafficking Malmbanan do that to great effect. In fact, during the descent from RiksgrÃnsen to Narvik, the loaded trains feed back enough electricity to power the empty trains returning to the mines in Sweden.

For more than two decades. I've had them in my Book of Grudges ever since 2001 or so, when I had 3 MSI boards in a row fail on me.

Another, later, incident was when a cheap test cluster was being built and the buyer disregarded my advice and bought MSI motherboards. 75% had some sort of serious flaw, ranging from dying at first boot, through serious hangs, to weird performance drops, to flaky connectors. Poor Barton core Athlon XP's, probably the most stable AMD CPU's ever, let down by MSI and VIA back then :/

Only Volvo Personvagnar was sold off from the Volvo Group to the chinese fund. The rest of Volvo Group, including Lastvagnar, Specialty Vehicles, Heavy and Marine motor development and production departments for example, are not.

Fairly important distinction to keep in mind in regards to discussing EU policy.

Unfortunately not banned them entirely, but the regulations regarding inspection and maintenance of stoves, ventilation as well as fire safety were tightened up, similar to how Radon inspection and mitigation rules were tightened up. Lots of buildings were rightly forced to improve ventilation in the 80's and 90's, in addition to those houses still using gas forced to renovate gas lines and old stoves and ovens. There were also updated workplace health and safety regulations.

Cast iron works excellently on induction stoves, as does woks. As I mentioned in another post, 3 out of the 5 chinese and thai restaurants within 20 minutes walk from where I live(not exactly centre of Stockholm) use induction stoves, and don't fucking try to claim that you don't shake and toss when you stir fry.

The cooks there, when I ask them how they find it, say that it's just a matter of adapting to a different set of quirks, i.e, don't be stagnant.
