Pascal is a very safe language, created to teach procedural programing, it obviously lacks the simple ways python has to do complex task with a few lines of code. I dont know if having a lot of things solved is really good for learning, pascal is not usefull in real life, but I belive that learning to program has very little to do with real life applications in the beginning.

Submission + - Why Oh Why did Slashdot introduce auto-refresh on its homepage? 3

An anonymous reader writes: Before I finished reading one story summary on the slashdot homepage I was annoyingly interrupted and taken to /?source=autorefresh. Why in the world would a site that adds a story every half-hour (random guess) need to do this? It is extremely annoying when I can't finish reading a summary before the page refreshes, starts at the top, and jumps back down to where I was reading.

Submission + - Slashdot is broken! (slashdot.org) 3

was that the summary says that more capable antennas could improve reading distance, while in reality the tecnology was desinged for very short ranges, with a practically working distance of less than 10 cm. This is I belive because most tags are passive, have no energy and most be powered by the reading device with magnetic induction.

Festo's Drone Dragonfly Takes To the Air 45

yyzmcleod writes "Building on the work of last year's bionic creation, the Smart Bird, Festo announced that it will literally launch its latest creation, the BionicOpter, at Hannover Messe in April. With a wingspan of 63 cm and weighing in at 175 grams, the robotic dragonfly mimics all forms of flight as its natural counterpart, including hover, glide and maneuvering in all directions. This is made possible, the company says, by the BionicOpter's ability to move each of its four wings independently, as well as control their amplitude, frequency and angle of attack. Including its actuated head and body, the robot exhibits 13 degrees of freedom, which allows it to rapidly accelerate, decelerate, turn and fly backwards."

Microsoft To Open Retail Stores 535

chaz373 writes "CNET reports that Microsoft is going retail. In the 'Beyond Binary' blog Ina Fried reports, 'After years of brushing off the notion, Microsoft said on Thursday that it will open up its own line of retail stores. Without detailing the plans, Microsoft said it has hired David Porter, a 25-year Wal-Mart veteran, to lead the effort. Sources say that Porter's mission will be to develop the company's retail plans and that the effort is likely to start small with just a few locations.'"

Firefox Faster In Wine Than Native 493

An anonymous reader writes "Tuxradar did some benchmarks comparing Firefox's Windows and Linux JavaScript performance. 'We did some simple JavaScript benchmarks of Firefox 3.0 using Windows and Linux to see how it performed across the platforms — and the results are pretty bleak for Linux.' Later on, they tried Wine. 'The end result: Firefox from Mozilla or from Fedora has almost nil speed difference, and Firefox running on Wine is faster than native Firefox.'"
