When the religious "nuts" stop pushing back

  • Deserve unemployment? Hate to say it- it's a different culture in Germany after all- but from a conservative standpoint of those who do not work do not deserve welfare or anything other than starvation- she refuesd a full time job and thus her benefits *should* be cut. If prostitution was legal here, the same thing would happen in all 50 states. I have a friend who refused a job because questions in the interview indicated that the boss had a history of sexual harassment. She looked into it and he DID h
    • You kinda got the point, in spite of yourself. You are right that if prostitution were legal it would be considered a normal job. The point is keeping prostitution illegal to prevent this from happening. However, if someone were to fight such a measure they would be cast as born-again wackos. Its a variation on newspeak. This is a good reason to keep prostitution illegal based solely on not wanting the government to be a pimp, but raising the issue would cause one to be subjected to religion-based pers

        • has a form of legalized prostitution ...lose their benefits.
Not entirely- she can always choose to take the reduced benefits instead.

Which is it? You are dwelling on a nuance that doesn't exist.

Eliminate prostitution and welfare benefits and the problem goes away. Why do you let your leftist attitudes do this to women? Its out of the dark ages.

Unemployment insurance is not welfare. Welfare is aid for mothers with dependant children. People can qualify for welfare without paying a dime into the system, which is one reason why so many despise it as a handout.

However, to qualify for unemployment benefits, you must have first worked for a period of time and actually paid into unemployment insurance through all those weird taxes they take out of your paycheck. Unemployme

"Force" would require her to have no choice- your choice of words. I was pointing out that she HAS a choice- the choice not to take the benefits (as if that's any choice at all).

Eliminate prostitution and welfare benefits and the problem goes away.

No- starving women in the streets makes the problem worse as it forces women to become criminals instead.

Why do you let your leftist attitudes do this to women? Its out of the dark ages.

            Well,
        • legalized prostitution already- topless exotic dancing in bars

A lapdance is not the same as sexual intercourse. Dancing naked is different as well. Anything involving nudity isn't sexual only sexy.

          • Ah, but the "religious nuts" would probably disagree with that- as do many women. The point is, however, not the technical definition of prostitution- which at times in history have included doing sexy things for money. The point is a rather bad reformation of unemployment law which requires one to *apply* for jobs even when one has a religious or moral objection to the job- and that law is already in all 50 states.
      • You are right that if prostitution were legal it would be considered a normal job.

Normal, like stripping and nude modeling? Hardly.

Stripping and nude modeling are legal now. However, no one in the US is denied unemployment benefits because they turn down one of those jobs.

The point is keeping prostitution illegal to prevent this from happening. However, if someone were to fight such a measure they would be cast as born-again wackos.

Depends on how they fought against it. If all they did w
        • And why do you think I care about your opinion?

However, no one in the US is denied unemployment benefits because they turn down one of those jobs.

Noone yet. It will happen. Just like we didn't have newspapers with stories about a woman killing a pregnant woman then cutting out the "fetus" and stealing the "baby". Time changes things in the name of secular progressivism.

Depends on how they fought against it.

Not really. Political correctness has left some positions undefendable. Say someth

Is this some sort of ad hominem attack? You're posting on a public forum. Address my statements or puss out in front of everybody.

Me: However, no one in the US is denied unemployment benefits because they turn down one of those jobs.

            That's a typical slippery-slope argument.
            • When I see a woman in the US denied unemployment benefits because she refused work at a strip club, I'll believe you. However, that hasn't happened in my lifetime thus far. Your argument is ridiculous.

That you know of. A plain reading of current unemployment law as mandated by the federal government would indicate that this can happen- and given modern employment office software, could indeed happen. It would be a bit more complex than the German case- the employment office would have to "refer" her for

From my limited understanding of the way strip clubs work, the dancers in these clubs are not set up as employees. Dancer
                • From my limited understanding of the way strip clubs work, the dancers in these clubs are not set up as employees. Dancers actually pay a certain amount of money every night to the club in order to perform there. In effect, they work at the strip club, not for the strip club. This is in order to get around things like the equal opportunity laws which kick in when a business reaches a certain number of employees. (Otherwise, strip clubs would have to hire an equal amount of male strippers.) Brothels are lega
          • MH, is this guy really your defender? I have to assume you attracted him. Sounds pretty hateful to me.

From the extremes, the center often looks like the other side. His opinions are his own and are parallel to mine- but not the same as I pointed out in my journal on the topic.

For this particular discussion, I'm on your side- a plain reading of the current law would have women being denied unemployment benefits if they failed to apply when referred for a nude modeling or stripping job. It would be STUPI

Cobol programmers are down in the dumps.
