Journal atheists's Journal: Mod Bomb 24

Some of you may have thought that there weren't any true people opposed to the views of atheists. Well, look at the posting history for this account and notice 5 "overrated" downmods (1 2 3 4 5).

It seems there must be someone out there who hates atheists enough to hide behind the overrated moderation (which goes unchecked in metamoderation). To call me a troll is one thing as you stand behind your moderations and you think they will hold up to metamoderation, to use the overrated in this way shows cowardice.

With this abuse of moderation this account has now reached the "Due to excessive bad posting from this IP or Subnet, comment posting has temporarily been disabled" wall.

This has also pushed the karma here to bad.

Update:

Thanks to whomever mod'd up a few things. I can post now (obviously from the action below). Whoever did this, thanks, but don't keep doing it as it is my understanding that /. doesn't like you blowing your set of mod points on the same person. Hopefully this will come back to bite the person who spent 5 points on overrated mods.

In other news, we had a freak for a few minutes. mgessner had foed this account, but then undid this. Not sure what to make of this yet. Perhaps they were expecting something else from this account and learned this wasn't the case. I know they are a Christian and go to church in Delaware, OH. Perhaps they saw this account and assumed we hated people in Delaware, but then learned we meant the state ;-)

Update #2:

I have emailed the editor/admin staff about this and someone did get back to me. Not sure what will happen, but if there is a need, I will post an update.

  • It took the crap-flooding asshats this long...

Word of advice - let those of us who have friended you be your speakers, use this account solely for JE's and you'll be fine. Word of mouth is more powerful than actual advertising.
    • Well, some posts (or lack there of like a lack of a reply to this [slashdot.org]), makes it seem somewhat trollish. Foe'ing "anti-atheists"? Does that mean you'll foe anyone that believes any type of religion? I'm not against atheists. One of my best friends is one. Yet, I'm foed for my 'Christian' perspective. To each his own, I suppose, but I'm not surprised someone is hittin him up with bad mods.

Oh, and don't look at me, I turned off willing to moderate.

Unlike you I don't feed the trolls, but maybe just the once. (And only once for this thread)

The post you mention was a reply to a post with the theme "That is why you are foed."

In case you (or others) missed it. TL created a JE that went basically like, "An account was made that foed me and several other Christians. This account is anti-Christian."

My reply: "This attitude is why you are foed. The acco
      • It would indeed perhaps be more beneficial and positive to mainly use the friends list and to not use the 'foes' list or to reserve it for special cases. I don't think it's a good idea to "polarize" things too much: if it's about making an atheist perspective heard, then being inviting/open to those with different views may work better than labeling them as foes. Any form of obvious bitterness tends to hurt the cause.

That's my take on it for now :-)
  • To fix these problems, everyone needs to metamod religiously. I metamoderate about 60 comments a day, because I had the foresight a long time ago to acquire accounts and build their karma. Now, I wield awesome metamod power.

And, I use that power only for good. I examine each negative metamod very closely and if it's wrong, I mark it unfair. For example, it's very common for someone to be moderated as "flamebait" when an "offtopic" should have been chosen. I mark those unfair.

    I see you added me.

I, too, have had anti-religious stuff inappriately modded down.

Those who can, do; those who can't, write. Those who can't write work for the Bell Labs Record.
