Citing US and Yemeni officials, Associated Press reported that the unnamed informant was working under cover for the Saudis and the CIA when he was given the bomb, which was of a new non-metallic type aimed at getting past airport security.
The Guardian doesn't even bother giving a URL to the AP. It's almost as though the Guardian was reaching through its own diaper for a rectal pluck, or something. Which is by no means dispositive; no idea whatsoever whether the Guardian is doing more than selling advertising here.
Your 2009 prediction, itself, seems more conclusive.
