Journal damn_registrars's Journal: Will the GOP Kill Democracy Outright This Time? 16

We saw in 2021 that the GOP is not fond of democracy when it doesn't work out in their favor. They stormed the capitol for their Dear Leader and have sewn seeds of conspiracy and hatred since then as well. In a recently closed JE here on slashdot a question came up of what the GOP might do if their Dear Leader loses a third time in 2024 .

Cheering for His Team as usual, smitty offered only :

I would suggest running a clean election, but I fear the sun has set on those days until there is enough power to make reform happen despite the liars.

Which certainly is in line with their Dear Leader's ongoing refusal to accept the 2020 results as valid, and also likely sufficient kindling for another group of rabid conservatives to try for another insurrection.

As a side note, I'll give him credit for getting close(r) to the original topic of the JE by the end. The JE was about what His Team would do in the USHouse with a new speaker installed. He jettisoned that topic to praise a convicted murderer for a while, and then eventually went back to instead praising a fascist who has yet to win the presidential vote.

Will the GOP Kill Democracy Outright This Time?

  • You probably shouldn't call the ex-president, "Dear Leader."
It's an insult to places like North Korea.

  • Because nothing says "fascist" like being impeached twice while having your own followers be the ones thrown in the cooler. By the ones with, you know, the actual fascist tendencies. Do stay glorious!
    • Being impeached for breaking the law is not a sign of being repressed by fascists, it is a sign of having the disregard of the law that is characteristic of being a fascist. Fascism throughout history has always - with zero exceptions - been a right-wing movement. Naturally now we see it coming again from right-wing leaders.
      • I'm learning that Marxism breaks everyone down into oppressor/oppressed groups, and Trump is clearly the latter. Your Team, therefore, are the fascist oppressors. Wow, this is great!
        • oppressor/oppressed groups, and Trump is clearly the latter

How is Trump being oppressed? He is getting his fair days in court for the crimes and offenses he is charged with. He is still campaigning and raking in campaign contributions. He could hardly ask for more publicity, and given he has to sit through court proceedings he actually has less opportunity to spew out hatred and stupidity - so really he should be thankful for his situation.

There you go with the "f" word.

What is not fair about his trials? Are you just unhappy that he's being tried at all, as you have already made arguments that you see him being permanently above the law?

    • having your own followers be the ones thrown in the cooler

So why didn't your Dear Leader help them, then? If he's as spectacularly wealthy as he claims he could have at least helped them with legal costs. The closest he came to helping any of them was to post a couple encouraging tweets. If their fates were so important he could have opted to take action. What kind of leader is that?

      • So why didn't your Dear Leader help them, then?

Help them how, exactly? ISTR there weren't any charges until DJT was a private citizen.

Not that Your Team gives a French frigate's fo'c's'le about anything beside raw, fascist power.

He could have offered up funds towards their legal defense. He keeps reminding us that he is rich, he could have either offered up funds of his own or helped raise funds for them. After all, if the legal system is so "corrupt" then why would he let his followers suffer through it without assistance?

He is also still undoubtedly the leader of the GOP. He could have pressured congress to do something.

Your Team has destroyed terms such as "marriage", "woman" and "fascist", yes. Melted them down like Confederate statues. But we're not supposed to notice.

He claimed that. And as is the case with so many things, there is zero evidence of him having paid out a single solitary dime.

Your Team has destroyed terms such as "marriage", "woman" and "fascist", yes.

Marriage is two people who love each other and are committed to staying together. It's not difficult.

Woman is contextual, and always has been.

Fascist is a leader who aims to consolidate power into the hands of as few people as possible. Never in history has there been a fascist who did not come from a politically right-wing movement.

              • Woman is contextual, and always has been.

Well, there ya go. As long as the invariants are mutable, there will always be some authoritarian dickhead asserting control to preserve power.

One takes comfort in the spiritual understanding that while that,

while an authoritarian dickhead can "jack around" for quite a while under the sun,

there will be a reckoning with the Judge Eternal, followed by some "finding out".
