Journal Jac_no_k's Journal: 2003 May 24th, Saturday 10

Hi all,

This Saturday is Annoy Phuong Day featuring the Gaggle of Gaming Geeks (G3). They are making an appearence at the Boonies (Jack's house).

Scheduled to appear, Time Crisis in glorious 16 : 9 mode on the unfortunately now small Tosiba 34HD82. If the Guncon fails to work, or we get bored, playing backup is Super Monkey Ball on the GameCube. And if we get really bored, it's the ever exciting "Help Jack Set Up the Garage" game and "Finish the UHF Antenna Installation" game. Or we could go to Magic Mountain....

  • Well. I guess I'll join in the frey to annoying your SO.. and I guess we can make it a test for my updated Gamebox V2.03B on the TV..
  • Okay, I haven't seen X2 or Reloaded. I'm sure most of you guys have seen it... Want to see it again for the meet? I'm thinking of the first show in the morning, and then lunch afterwards...

    • I will go to see X-Man2 in Saturday. Do you want to go????? IMPOSSIBLE!!!
    • I don't think any of us seen Reloaded yet.. we were thinking about doing that sunday. but we could go sat if time is permitting I guess..

Do we watch Neo shooting the bad guys on big screen? or we could shoot the bad guys ourselves on the smaller screen.. :D

Act-Labs confirms the shipping of PC-USB lightguns for TV. maybe I'll get one as well.

      • No no no... We aren't going to play that stupid game from Shiny just to see additional back story.

Speaking of Matrix Reloaded, the Animatrix is coming out soon. Probably another good excuse for a gathering. <grins

        • need to transfer all your Animatrix episodes to my gamebox. Can you burn it on the CD tomorrow?

Entering The Matrix: I was hoping to see if the video will look improved on your BIG Toshiba TV.. it's horrorible on my tiny 24" TV, and even worst on my Eyetrek...

          • Animatrix
You could get the four free episodes from here [thq.com]. You could also get it from Time / Warner / AOL thing. There's no way to eat up the bandwidth from them. And almost all of us have some form of decent speed Internet... If you really want it on cd, I'll make a burn though.

            Matrix game
I dunno if it will look any better. We'll see.

  • So we had a moderately successful gathering of gaming geeks. Here's some random findings:

The Namco Guncon2 does work with the Toshiba 34HD82. I was quite surprised that it detected progressive mode and just worked.

The TV sitting just a few inches off the floor doesn't work well with gun games. So hopefuly by the time the we have another round of games, I will have finished building the built in entertainment center.

The gun games require regular composite video signals. Wow what difference when you

    • Oh, more thoughts:

Eugene showed me Amplititude, the sequel to Frequency. It's a going to buy game on my list now.

He also showed me Gitaroo Man. What a funky game. Some interesting control schemes for beat game. Again a must buy game.

I did my bullet time dodging the Enter the Matrix game. (grins)

Guncon2 sorta designed with this in mind. that's why they have the 2 point calibration automatically kicks in. On regular TV, all you get is a single point calibration (unless your force it to do a 2 point).

Time Crisis 2's two player mode was better with the 16:9 mode.

Time Crisis 2 supports linked play, which is probably the best way. but it's very hard to find a place to setup like this. but if we ever get to do GT3 network style, we can try
