Why do you play the violin?

  • I play the organ. In a society where religion (rightly) has gone the way of the dinosaurs, and real musical instruments are being replaced by "laying down beats" and "gangsta rap" and "RnB yo!".

Seriously, I play the organ. Not just the pipes, a proper synth with two or more manuals and bass pedals with no limits on polyphony that can sound like, well, nearly any record that isn't "pimped up" in the studio lol...

I spent (wasted?) many years learning and practicing to do this, too.

If I may register my gripe, why is it that singing was so rapidly replaced by autotune? I can understand why a couple of the top40 artists have been so angry at it (though sadly the guys who hate it aren't that great anyways). Now it seems like half the top40 songs you hear (in my case, involuntarily) are extremely autotuned. Even some people who used to sing are now phoning it in with autotune.

I'm all in favor of robotics making our lives easier, but I don't want to listen to robots singing.

A computer scientist is someone who fixes things that aren't broken.
