    Moderation is performed by the community, random members of which are assigned a random number of modpoints (5, 10, or 15 it seems) on a random basis.

    When everyone is lucky they spend the mod points to moderate comments up or down on something other than a random basis. Slashdot originally had a metamoderation phase where other members of the community rated the moderation usage.

    In the future, though, when making comments like "leprosy cured by subluxation", keep in mind that the community-at-large is high
