Journal FortKnox's Journal: Metroid and Marriage 15
No, they are not directly related, just didn't spend time thinking about a good title.
Well, I finally got to the last guy in Metroid:Prime (no spoilers, so relax if you plan on playing it), and its frustrating as hell. All the other bosses I've encountered I usually can get them down to maybe 25% life left before dying (and I keep at it until, about 5 deaths later, I kill them). But the last guy in Metroid is TOUGH!!! I can't even get it down to 50% life before dying and I have 11 energy tanks! So I eventually gave up and will probably try again this weekend.
Now my wife always complains that I tell her what to do in video games, and always beat 'her' games before she gets the chance to. So she's been playing Mario Sunshine for as long as I've been playing Metroid, with the agreement that I can't play sunshine until she's done playing (or has a far enough lead that it'll take me a loong time to catchup), and I'm not allowed to tell her anything about the game while she's playing. So, while she was working on a project last night (Joey was already asleep), I switched over to Mario Sunshine, just to get her upset. I didn't get very far before she recognized the music and yelled at me.
To the unmarried folk, this is what marriage is all about. Sure, you have the love and affection and the best friend of your life, but you also have someone you can annoy and teast, and completely get away with it (eventually, when you get her to calm down and tell her you were just teasing her). I almost not miss teasing my two younger sisters since I got married ;-)

So true. My wife and I make it a habit to annoy one another (in jest) at least once a day. If you can't laugh with and at one another, then you'll be very unhappy... besides it's fun.
Yep. Man+wife+video games= marital bliss. (Score:2)
Needless to say, before the holidays (which involved long plane rides and her wanting to play again) she requested that I clear the high score register. For half a second, I felt panic. I can get to the 60,000 range on a good day, but there was that 90,000, that time when I was really flowing.
However, I would rather foster competition little by little with my wife. So if clearing the scores to allow her name on the board was what it took, I'd do it. She's not a gaming wimp; she kicks ass in platformers. Its just that she doesn't have the burning desire to shove someone else's face in the ground via a videogame.
Also- if that 90k was a fluke, than I didn't deserve to have my name by it.
Of course, once I cleared the high scores I played it and made sure that the top slot of 60,620 had my name on it. She can have all the lower positions, and track her progress. But I gotta be on top, if only to annoy

Bookworm, on the other hand, rocks. (Yes, it's arguably random as well, although there's at least a little more brainpower involved.) If there were a PDA version of that I'd be in trouble.

See, I loved atomica, but the PDA version is bloated and crappy. It just didn't translate well.
However Bejewelled and Pirates and Mummies and even Alchemy are all PDA winners in my book, with Bejewelled taking the crown.

I was about to go buy metroid prime today so I could find out if the final guy was frustrating or not. By reading this post I have had that joy ruined from me, And now i'm going to have to buy bmx xxx instead.

LOL! BMX XXX takes all the fun out of it. Back when I was a kid, the moment someone said "if you beat metroid REALLY fast, samus takes off her armor and is in a bikini", we would have "metroid marathons" to beat the game as fast as possible. But BMX XXX takes all the fun away with the "strippers and topless bikers" from the start!

We got "Mystic Heroes" for Christmas, and "Evolution Worlds"... because I was sick, I got to play first, but we usually flip a coin for it. We'd play up to one level (in EW, it was either a complete dungeon or 10 levels of the tower, MH has actual levels, subdivided (1.1, 1.2, etc)) and then trade off. It keeps one of us from playing too long, and in MH, there are 4 characters that participate in 2 overlapping storylines (2 pairs), so we just chose 2 characters who had different story lines.
It's much harder sharing, say, Animal Crossing, or Super Monkey Ball (and 2) but we're both crafting geeks, and there's always some project to do...
Thankfully, we aren't especially competitive with each other. He likes kicking my butt at some games, but there's not the obsession of being better than I am at everything (which is cool, because I kicked his butt soundly -- with different characters -- at Super Smash Brothers when we were playing it more often).
