I got an email the other day wherein someone elaborated upon their self-defecating nature.

My response was to ask if they just used spell-check and clicked accept for every suggestion. They had. They always do.

I also told them they probably meant self-deprecating rather than self-defecating.

Moral: Spell-check is not a substitute for proof reading.
