Journal Zarf's Journal: This changes everything. 8

Haven't had to say that in about two or three months. I guess things are slowing down around here. Anything in the last three to six months that "changes everything" that I should know about?

  • I became king of the world, but other than that, everything is business as usual.
  • NewYorkCountryLawyer has inundated and monopolized the /. stories with submissions about the RIAA.

Other than that, the rest of the stories can be found 2-3 hours sooner on cnn.com.

    Slow news year.

'member the good ol' days on /. when every other story wasn't YROL? Too much politician, not enough geek.

Well the 2-3 hours sooner on another news source is just /. you come to Slashdot to get a digest of the news from around the geek world. The whole YROL thing should really be heating up pretty good this year because the next US election is going to be a doozy ... and because the oldsters are starting to get hip to this whole interweb thing that is clearly not just a fad.

That said I do wonder if we aren't losing some steam around here.
      • Now that you mention it, I have a better StrongBad-esque analogy.

Too much "stuff that matters", not enough "news for nerds."
      • Well, there was a mini-exodus over to Multiply.com, which would account for why you think it's a little quieter here than usual.

Okay, so I just peeped at multiply.com and I don't really see why it's so much better. Can anyone explain?

it's neat if you like being able to post pictures and videos and stuff.

i like seeing posts and it lets me know that it was posted by my friend's neighbor's brother-in-law's coworker. i think that's funny.

some people like being able to limit exactly how public something is.

some people hate it; some love it.
