First Person Shooters (Games)

Journal Real_Reddox's Journal: Video Game Violence 3

I'm a 17year old boy from Norway, currently living in Ny as an exchange student.
In Norway, I play a lot of video games, both on my 360 and my PC. But my host mum here in the US is against all video games, and especially violent ones.
She quotes studies that states how games affects the mind of the person playing them and how bad they are for you etc.
My question is: Are there any studies that shows that videogames don't affect the person playing them. Or any good arguments I can use?

  • Just as the other poster, I can't be bothered to search for hard data now at 2:30 AM but maybe I'll dig up something in my bookmarks tomorrow, I remember reading a few (somewhat) serious studies about that. You can try searching slashdot for these articles, I'm sure some of them were mentioned here.

For now though, you could tell her that the fact that you've not yet killed her just demonstrates the fact that violent video games don't cause violent behavior.
  • I have seen many positive arguments showing that video games increase hand-eye coordination. I am sure you could google for this...
