I got both films, the original and the monster-that-is-a-sequel, for the kids. They were sold together, in the same case. Of the two, I think the first is clearly better. The second, well... It's lacking on several levels.
I think that NES II is a clasic example of what not to do, when one is getting caught-up in writing sequels for popular films.
