Journal nizo's Journal: Voices of Iraq, upcoming surgery, Xmas (no meme today) 8

Voices of Iraq is a movie filmed by Iraqis in 2004. It presented a wonderful 'slice of life' view of post-Saadam Iraq, though the editing was obviously biased (especially with the jabs at various newspapers, which makes it obvious those editing the film had a very specific agenda). Still, even with the blatant bias it is an interesting glimpse of life that I haven't seen anywhere else.

Surgery: one week and counting. Hopefully I will recover in time for Xmas. Since the only time I have ever been in the hospital was to visit sick people and the birth of my kids, this should be interesting.

Speaking of which, I am nearly (90%) done with Xmas shopping. Whoohooo!

Too lazy for meme.

  • Good luck to you. I assume (in reference to your other journal) that you're just going for the one procedure, right?

Thanks. Yeah just "the one", though I have never been under general before, so that has me kinda freaked out. I go in today to find out more.

I found that to be less of a problem than I expected. They added "something" to my IV about 15 minutes before wheeling me off, and whatever it was, it certainly was relaxing. When they put the mask on me and told me to count backwards and breathe normally, I was completely cool with it. Next thing I knew, I was groggily waking up. Don't sweat the general, it's easier than you think.
  • Hope the surgery goes ok and all that. Also I'm jealous about your Christmas shopping. I'm about 0% done with mine.

      Thanks!

If you hate shopping in crowded places as much as I do, you get really motivated to plan ahead :-D

  • And get well soon.

I supposed if you don't heal as fast as you would like you could cautorize it with some hot sauce. Let me know and I'll see if we have any super-fire-hot salsa lying around. The last batch was too hot for me. My mouth burned for 5 minutes even after drinking milk. The guy who made it and a friend of mine both loved it, and I will admit to liking it for the 3/10 of one second my tastebuds were still intact.
  • Hopefully you'll get the results you want and it'll help with the apnea, and if not at least it just involved the removal of a body part you're probably not using that much anyway.

Which reminds me of an old joke: A man has been suffering from terrible headaches. He goes to see his doctor, who tells him that he has to have a castration. The doctor explains that his penile nerves are creating pressure on his spine and that's what's causing his blinding headaches. The man isn't too excited, but he can't live
