Just finished installing Windows 2000, so no first impressions yet. I'm hoping to get BF2 installed tomorrow sometime.

If only it'd download the windows update patches faster...

You gave it firewall protection before putting it on the net, right? Several years ago when I installed my W2K system, at the time the reported average for an unprotected Windows box to get owned was 10 minutes, as I recall. Probably much worse today.

I use a software firewall, an old Tiny Personal Firewall version that I really like, and my procedure was:
1) Connect PC to a hub (powered on but connected to nothing else).
2) Install W2K.
3) Because of the hub, it'll see a network, and let you install and config

Yeah, my DSL modem /router doesn't pass anything incoming through.

I once had a windows 2000 server box hacked on first boot before I had time to shut down IIS.
