    • yes, geeks win.

venom is the part of the storyline that i know best. i've been hoping to see venom since i first heard they'd make spidey movies.

there's an in-depth analysis over at ign [ign.com]. gwen stacy? fascinating.

and if you didn't look it up yet, topher grace = eddie brock.
    • You know the whole of which Venom storyline? I believe that the story in the movie is roughly the story from the new Ultimate series, which is also in the recent video game, Ultimate Spiderman. I'm not fond of this version of Venom, actually.
    • Well isn't the idea to do a whole Sinister Six this movie? Topher is Eddie Brock (somehow... that doesn't seem to work by first read). THC as Sandman, Franco as Goblin 2, and Dylan Baker from 2 to show up as the Lizard. Problem is that that is a LOT to cram into one movie.

I've always thought that the best way to work all that in so the movie doesn't seem so breathless is to use flashback. If you have the chronology:

      *Movie Starts*
      Villain #1 Origin
      Villain #2 Origin
      Villain #3 Origin
      First Confrontation with

        • I just wish they wouldn't have killed Dr Octopus. *sigh* There's nothing like "OMG! The Riddler/Hobgoblin has gone over to Arkham/Rikers and broken everybody out!!!" to stir up the blood.

Favorite hero? Mmm. I guess I never identified with heroes. I found them interesting but more as fables than as something I associated with. I mean, I liked Batman but I'm not anything like him. And even Peter Parker is batting out of his league with Mary Jane (who became a huge model), was working on a Chem Masters
        • I think Jack Nicholson's portrayal of the Joker in the first movie was spot on. He was a bloody maniac! That's exactly the way the joker should be played. He's not some criminal behind the mask, he is the mask. The Joker doesn't have some secret identity to fall back on and just about every origin story ever done by DC has agreed on this one central point.

The reason why the Joker is Batman's arch-enemy is that he creates chaos from order, and he does it not via extensive planning, but through cold, crazy
      • stopping the killing of super villains is a great start.

they could use that to launch a sinister six down the road a bit. the flashbacks could be just enough of past movies that people who haven't seen them all don't miss out, but the ones who have are rewarded even more.

i hope harry isn't destroyed at the end of the movie. i really like the way his character has been built up over the first two. it'd be a shame to see all that work go away in just one film. they might be able to kill harry off and make
  • looks interesting, but heh, i'm more interested in the fact that they made charlotte's web into a movie, and it looks pretty decent (even if julia roberts is the voice of charlotte).

    • if it says crunchy it will make people think of bacon.

i probably botched the exact quote, but you get the idea.

my spiderman fandom has always been much larger than that of most. but for me it's just large enough not to be completely eclipsed by my star wars fandom.
  • There's a chase scene involving Sandman and an armored car that they shot here in CLE a couple of months ago.
    Some good smashem' up.
NYC taxis and buses driving around made it seem like a real city.
