Hearing

Hiding in a corner

Looking for the faces in the crowd
Calling out in silence
Begging for compassion,
and a face to call my own.

Talking to the shadows
Peering in the windows
Walking through the door
and being there.

Talking
Listening
Shouting
Laughing
Starting to fit in.

Starting to see people,
if not as friends, not strangers,
sharing common goals.
Learning to be seen

But still,
in all these people,
all these faces,
now with names,
is there one for me?
