I also remember it being that way. The widespread use of the term "apps" came about with smartphones, and then people started using it in reference to computer software, applications, programs.

Windows 95 had "C:\Program Files\" , not "C:\App Files\"

I wonder if the marketing departments at these large corporations have a graphic on the wall for when determining which consumer segment to target. Mmm, high-grade prosumers.

There are so many other more interesting products out there that don't include a free EULA mandated RFID ear tag for when they send you down the chute. Framework laptop, Pinebook, PPC laptop, to name a few.

Can't remember too many instances of people with them, but I know someone who has a Satellite M305 and it actually seems pretty nice, I really like the keyboard. Considering the thing is twelve or so years old, it has held up well and runs Linux without any issues. With a SATA SSD and RAM upgrade, it would probably be fine for many normal uses.

The new Enlightenment is pretty good too. It's more of a DE, but you can strip it down quite a bit to make it behave more like a WM. I use it more like that because it has support for many modern features, but it's modular so you can disable what you don't use. Some older WMs are actually kind of useful for VMs when you want to use some type of remote desktop.

For every ballot initiative, there are people out on the street collecting all of the information needed to fake this. I managed to get one of those forms used by someone "registering voters" and it was the state voter registration form combined with a separate non-state issued voter info section attached to the side. For the uninformed schmoe that actually hands the form back, it has all the good Personal Information that would be needed for identity theft: Name, Address, SSN, Date of Birth, Driver License Number, signature. Voting in this country is a joke, all aspects should have a chain of custody and actual photo verification. Buying alcohol and tobacco products requires more verification than voting or registering to vote.
