Sure, it's going to be more fun than taking a test but Hadi must think very little of teachers to make blanket statements like the one at the end of the article.

Many of my students who have volunteered with TEALS said that they felt that it wasn't doing much or anything to build long term capacity with respect to teaching.

That said, they all felt that while they were in the classroom the kids were getting something that they wouldn't have gotten otherwise and that was worth it.

They didn't think it was a game changer but they did feel it was a good thing. I tend to agree.

Funny thing is that I've been told that my graduates form the largest subset of all the NY area TEALS volunteers.

Meanwhile we continue to produce results but struggle to raise funds while the rich get richer.

My school is mostly working and middle class and very close to being eligible for title 1 funding. Lots of recent immigrants.
We're a public school and receive no special funding.

I made no reference to H1-B no about Gates making money - try reading what I wrote.

In terms of programs - I'm a teacher so I have neither a voice nor deep pockets. What I do have is the fact that I'm the best at what I do and have built a great team. As the U.S. wrecks its overall ed system and rolls out bad CS the kids that I work with will be in even higher demand.

Then add the negative impact that Gates has had on this country's ed system and follow it up with the fact that none of the players driving the bus are educators.

The College board is about one thing - making money - the fact that code.org is in bed with them is rather disturbing.

I've seen school administrators try to destroy teachers just so they could give a job to their (frequently less competent) buddy. Without due process (which is all that tenure is) these teachers would have had their careers ruined.
