Reading this article was indeed depressing. This teacher is talking about grade inflation, but attempts to describe it as some abstract phenomenon. "Why are the grades inflating?!"
Gee, i wonder if it has something to do with teachers giving students a better grade than they deserve! as the parent poster said, students/parents are affectively buying their degree.
This duke university teacher uses the article to look at all possible areas of cause for the problem, except one: teachers. And that is the problem.
