Yuri is the russian transliteration of the greek name Georgos (George in English) which means farmer, literally Earth Worker from Geo - earth + Ergo - work.

Yup.... My name is also a derivative of Georges ("Jorg"), so I'm an "Earth Worker" too. I knew it already though: read it in some of the books about first names.
