SoaP was ripped on as "camp." Which to many, sayyy the Rocky Horror and MST3k crowd, makes it more interesting than a typical B-grade action flick... Even the studio saw this as positive, and repositioned themselves. The started [viral]marketing it as camp, and even reshot some scenes to make them _more_ ridiculous.

PS3 is different. A gadget is either considered a value or it isn't. You don't see people buying UMDs _because_ they're a ripoff... only possibly _in spite_ of it.

The closest thing to "camp" in the gadget world is "retro." For instance, buying an old Intellivision or whatever... but i don't think Sony can effectively market the PS3 this way unless they plan to have another PS3 rollout in 20 years. =)

CEO Shawn Hogan Takes on MPAA 491

IAmTheDave writes "Shawn Hogan, CEO of Digital Point Solutions, has found himself on the receiving end of an MPAA lawsuit claiming he downloaded a copy of 'Meet the Fockers' on Bittorrent. Mr. Hogan both denies the charges as well as claims he already owns the movie on DVD. After being asked to pay a $2500 extortion fee, Mr. Hogan lawyered up and has vowed to challenge and help change the MPAA's tactics. 'They're completely abusing the system,' Hogan says. Although expecting to pay well over $100,000 to defend himself, he claims 'I would spend well into the millions on this.'"

Microsoft Ponders Windows Successor 320

Speaking at The Venture Forum conference, Microsoft's Bryan Barnett, a program manager for external research programs in the Microsoft Research group, said multicore architectures are of particular interest when weighing what to put in future operating systems at the company. "Taking full advantage of the processing power that those multicore architectures potentially make available requires operating systems and development tools that don't exist largely today," Barnett said. Well, with Vista in the pipeline as long as it has been, you must admit it is not surprising Microsoft is taking the long-term view. And it won't be built overnight: There is no timetable for a Windows successor right now. But early work on this effort has not yet been organized, with five or six small projects afoot in various places throughout the company, Barnett said."

From the article: 'So how to explain them? Louis speculates that the particles could be extraterrestrial bacteria adapted to the harsh conditions of space and that the microbes hitched a ride on a comet or meteorite that later broke apart in the upper atmosphere and mixed with rain clouds above India.'"
