The carbon wasn't sequestered. Sequestered implies it's not in the biosphere / biocycle, like coal or oil. Nope.
Here is a paper titled "PRINCIPLES AND PROCESSES OF CARBON SEQUESTRATION BY TREES" written by two university lecturers and published by the NSW state government.
