Submission + - US congress rules Huawei a 'security threat' (brisbanetimes.com.au)

dgharmon writes: Chinese telecom company Huawei poses a security threat to the United States and should be barred from US contracts and acquisitions, a yearlong congressional investigation has concluded.

A draft of a report by the House Intelligence Committee said Huawei and another Chinese telecom, ZTE, "cannot be trusted" to be free of influence from Beijing and could be used to undermine US security.

People don't endure rapes and sexual assualts; they suffer them

Does that apply to other crimes as well, or only rape and sexual assault? If a victim of wife beatings, assault, etc doesn't suffer, but closes their eyes and endures, does that mean it isn't a crime?

This case is groundless unless the alleged victim had a serious reason for "not articulating" herself properly

A long history of women shutting up and enduring sex even if they don't really want to is a pretty good reason.

That said, I don't think the first case has much of a case. Trying to prove what she is saying would be incredibly hard, and even if she did manage to prove it, it's a gray zone. But I do think it's good that she did report it, people need to learn to listen, talk, and observe during sex.
The second case should be brought to court. Initiating sex while the other party is sleeping is nothing short of rape, unless you actually know the other party very well, and knows that he/she doesn't mind. But as usual, it will be incredibly hard to prove, and he would probably walk free even if he did it. But it sets an example that it is NOT OK to do stuff like that.
It feels kind of sad that JA has to be a person who gets that role (and by extension WikiLeaks, since people can't separate the two), but he shouldn't stand above the law, just because he is who he is.

As a vegetarian since my teenage years, I have no problems with this.
But I won't eat it to a great extent. Since I became a vegetarian I've learned to enjoy non-fabricated food. Food made from raw ingredients taste so much better than fabricated food, and most of my vegetarian friends are of the same opinion. (my meat eating friends are also of this opinion, but they still buy a lot more fabricated food than my vegetarian friends)
This would fall in the same category as, and could be used as a replacement for, Quorn. Which I do use a couple of times a month for easy proteins.

The happiest people will probably be vegetarians meat eating parents, who no longer needs to make a special meal just for us when they're having dinner parties :)

and isn't even actually rape, but rather a failure to stop consensual sex

There is no such thing as "failure to stop consensual sex", the moment a women doesn't want to have sex anymore, the sex becomes non consensual, or rape. "Failure to stop consensual sex" would be if both were still consenting, but for some reason couldn't stop. It's quite sad to see peoples attitudes towards women. I've held /., as a community, in quite high regard when it comes to morals, if you read at 4+ at least. But it seems that it doesn't extend to women.

But then again, I live in the hornets nest of revolutionary feminism that is Sweden. And I've been raised with the knowledge that women have the same rights as men, and that I shouldn't have sex with people that doesn't want to have sex.

Submission + - Microsoft Wanted To Drop Mac Office To Hurt Apple

Overly Critical Guy writes: More documents in the Iowa antitrust case have come out. This time, it's revealed that Microsoft considers Mac users its "guinea pigs" for new Office features, and they once considered dropping Mac Office entirely, "as doing so will do a great deal of harm to Apple immediately." This case has become a treasure trove of internal memos describing Microsoft's internal business practices of the last ten years.
