Microsoft Releases New Concurrent Programming Language 297

zokier writes "Microsoft has released a new programming language called Axum, previously known as Maestro and based on the actor model. It's meant to ease development of concurrent applications and thus making better use of multi-core processors. Axum does not have capabilities to define classes, but as it runs on the .NET platform, Axum can use classes made with C#. Microsoft has not committed to shipping Axum since it is still in an incubation phase of development so feedback from developers is certainly welcome."

Researchers Hack Intel's VPro 105

snydeq writes "Security researchers from Invisible Things Lab have created software that can 'compromise the integrity' of software loaded using Intel's vPro Trusted Execution Technology, which is supposed to help protect software from being seen or tampered with by other programs on the machine. The researchers say they have created a two-stage attack, with the first stage exploiting a bug in Intel's system software. The second stage relies on a design flaw in the TXT technology itself (PDF). The researchers plan to give more details on their work at the Black Hat DC security conference next month."

Actually, at least a few home theater receivers already do that. Sony's STR DB840, of which I have the 2000 model or so, has a soundfield called "Night Theater" which compresses the volume for late-night viewing when you don't want to disturb the neighbors. It works really well, I've found. I think that model has been discontinued, but I would imagine its replacements retained that functionality.
