The American first concept is not going to subside after Trump leaves. A majority of America feel that the elites allowed the middle class to be followed out in by globalization where jobs were sent overseas in free trade deals. All while we policed the world and were lied into a horrible war in Iraq. Americans are angry at Europe for expecting us to sacrifice our children to protect them while they do not spend enough on their militaries to make that sacrifice less likely. The cats out of the bag now.

The supreme court said official presidential acts. Like Obama drone striking American citizens, or W Bush's lying us into war. Those are presidents lawfully exercising presidential power. They cannot be charged criminally for that. The supreme sent the case back down for the court to decide which if any charges were covered. If you listened to the oral arguments the justices recognized that there a few things that were covered as part of presidential power, but there were also a goodly amount that wasn't. Barret really zoned into that questioning well. Now the district Court must hold hearings to decide which crimes charged can still stand, which will be most of them. So no the sky isn't falling.

At least Ford had jobs to offer for people in the horse industry. Destroying families and impoverished them is exactly the opposite of progress. Find and create the replacement jobs first.

The purpose of retaining NATO after the fall of the Soviet Union was to ensure peace in Europe. Europe had seen two devastating wars in the last 100 years. NATO stopped that cycle and old enemies learned to be somewhat friendly. You analogy of a Cuban missile crisis is fundamentally flawed. The US removed strategic nuclear weapons from Europe after the fall of the Soviet Union. The risk to Russia from a NATO invasion was precisely 0. Given how poor the Russian army is doing in Ukraine they would be slaughtered by NATO forces. Again the former Warsaw Pact countries joined NATO to ensure that their countries continued to be free. Given the situation now I am sure that they made a wise decision. Russia has always been an aggressive country whether as an Empire or a communist collective. Russia by actions it did single handedly doubled the border with NATO by making Findland and Sweden feel exposed. The small countries that were occupied by Russia previously knew that if they didn't have a military alliance to protect them that they would be again swallowed up by Russian aggression. Russian desire for those formerly occupied countries caused those countries to drift into the NATO sphere. NATO didn't invade them. They willfully came with the goal of protecting their citizens from being ruled again by Russians. And yes the US putting nukes in Turkey was wrong and as a deal worked out with the Soviets and they were removed along with the nukes in Cuba. Forward deployed nukes are inherently vulnerable. They had a short window of viability. They have been replaced because submarine launched missiles are much more survivable.

Nice line of BS. The eastern bloc countries that joined NATO were democratic countries that elected governments campaigned on joining NATO. Russia has no right to stop independent countries from doing as thier citizens believe is the best. You can voluntarily join and leave NATO, not so with the Warsaw Pact or Russian federation. Given the events as they unfolded it is understandable why Ukraine and Georia wanted to join NATO to be safe from an imperialistic Russia.

I'm a capitalist. I believe in fair trade, and maximizing personal freedom. However fair trade is not possible with China. They manipulate thier currency to artificially increase thier competitiveness, they have shit environmental regulations and the few they have aren't enforced reliably. Thier labor laws are shit, thier workers exercise of freedom of association and form unions let alone strike. They cannot petition thier government for changes. Foreign investors cannot outright own companies in China and must partner with the Chinese communist party. Europe is beginning to see as well. So those environments cars manufactured with MASSIVE pollution and exploitation at coal powered factories by workers paid artificially low Salaries should not be allowed in the US or EU.

If the trade situation was fair, and their environmental, economic and labor regulations were similar. I'd agree with you. However they aren't. Allowing Chinese EVs into the US market is not the same as allowing German, Korean, or Japanese automakers. These cars would be made by workers with no right to organize in factories powered by massive amounts of coal, made with chemicals that have no EPA monitoring. By a company that is owned and financed by the Chinese communist party. I'm all for fair trade when it is among nations that have similar values. But free trade is not a suicide pact or a mandatory race to the bottom.
