Trump was lucky to inherit a strong economy. Job growth in Obama's second term was robust, and Trump managed to not kill the momentum. Trump also benefited from a Congress that was willing to spend money again, after fighting Obama at every step. Wage growth was the last thing to recover after the Great Recession, so no surprise that it grew under Trump.
What I really don't understand is your assertion that Trump puts citizens first.
- He imposed tariffs on China, which of course are paid by American buyers.
- He rolled back 125 climate and environmental policies, not caring that pollution and climate change hit poor people hardest.
- He's asking the Supreme Court to declare it unconstitutional to protect pre-existing medical conditions, so governments won't be able to improve access to healthcare even if they want to. This would also be very economically damaging to the millions of Americans who work in healthcare (far more workers than in fossil fuels).
- He downplayed COVID-19, despite knowing the real risk to Americans, because he was afraid it would make him look bad. And his reelection rallies are superspreader events.
- He neglected Puerto Rico for years after Hurricane Maria. Likewise, he refused (before an outcry) to provide federal aid to California during its wildfire disaster.
- From his words and tweets, we know he has very little regard for minorities who are injured or murdered by police. He doesn't think people of colour are real Americans, as evidenced by his July 2019 tweet lashing out at four elected Democrats for "viciously telling the people of the United States how our government is to be run."
...Just to name a few issues. I'm not American - I care mainly about his foreign policy. But the fact is that Trump puts himself first, no one else.
