To say CA has "clamped down on things...adversely affecting its people" is laughable. Many large cities have empowered violent vagrants, the drug-addicted and illegal citizens. Large cities, like San Francisco, are cesspools with feces, used needles on the streets and building corners used as urinals. Pension plans are bankrupt or kept afloat with a Ponzi scheme and higher taxes. If you think the massive taxation in CA is helping their citizens, it certainly isn't helping air quality. Sure, LA's air is a toxic mess, but let's consider San Franciso/San Jose. Why is that air, worse than the most polluted city in Texas, Houston? Houston also does a lot of oil refining which San Franciso has little of. At some point, you have to face facts. CA's political policies are failures.

Even though Austin is predominantly a Democrat city, they enjoy state laws enacted by Republicans. You simply have to move just beyond city limits to enjoy both the freedoms, low-taxation, security and business-friendly environment Texas provides. Austin's Democrat polices have led to vagrants (some violent), higher crime and political intrusiveness that has ruined the city. Living in Austin is almost as expensive as living in a metro California city, but I don't really place blame on the Democrats for that. It's the nature of being both the capital city and home to UT. Texan's are welcoming to other like-minded Americans, but are growing weary of the creep of Blue-imports that don't understand how their policies made their home state unlivable.

One incident is hardly basis to make policy. Reading into the incident with Botham Jean, there were a number of very bizarre circumstances. Taking isolated bad examples and applying it to the whole as systemic is the biggest mistake we are making. This broad-brushing is also at the heart of racism and must stop.

"Right's attempts to silence critics" ???? Surely you're joking. Between Google's biased results, Twitter's censorship of conservatives and ANTIFA's violent riots, I don't see any silencing except on the Left. Trump owes his victory to horrible Left ideas voiced by a corrupt candidate and America had enough. And stop with the "popular vote". If we did hold elections as a popular vote, candidates would campaign (and people would vote) completely different. Stop grasping at that plastic straw. You may not like the message or messenger, but Trump's results are why America voted for him.
