The biggest issue I see is that, sooner or later, driverless vehicles will make car ownership largely obsolete outside of small rural communities. You'll just use your smartphone to hail a cab (Uber-style) and ride it to your destination. These vehicles will be in use most of the time (assuming the fleet is scaled correctly for local demand), except when they're charging.
In this future-scenario, I don't see thousands of EVs sitting idle connected to people's homes. Car ownership will (and arguably, should) become a thing of the past. Driverless vehicles should massively reduce traffic congestion, as well as environmental benefits.
