Comment My own experience (Score 1) 150

I had some laptops from my current employer that were being thrown out.
2x of these had windows on them and I gave these to two families in need.
One mornig my wife contacted me as a colleague was very upset as her laptop broke and she was very poor.
I did a linux install via USB, super easy, installed libre office and chromium etc.
Her colleague got the laptop, she was extremely grateful, so much so that she bought me a gift.

She is still super happy and says there is no difference for her between a windows laptop and a linux one.

For me this means I can most likely give out more devices to similar people and they won't notice/care anymore.

GOOD JOB to the thousands of people that have put so much effort into Linux on the desktop!

Oh man I SO MUCH want this car..

We're moving to Palma so basically any car 5 years old is a risk as you know it is going to get beaten up / scratched.

My current (company) car is an ID.7

It is VERY good, far better than the ID3. I got it for weekly driving between Düsseldorf and Mainz. So SO comfortable.

But every time I see the 5N I dream of doing a lap on the Nordschleife!!
I only managed to do 2x laps 15 years ago on my old RX-7 that I modified

Right now I would really REALLY like to increase the female count in my dev team.

Ideally I would like to move towards 50/50 ratio, which sounds ridiculous (as I have only known 3 awesome female devs in my entire careeer), but, as my office is on Mallorca, has good pay (for Spain), amazing benefits, I really hope I can find 4 or so awesome female devs.

We'll most likely be doing a nationwide tv advertising campaign to get their attention..

Let's see if I can!

Comment 7000 people, that is a joke! (Score 5, Insightful) 209

I haven't been back home for almost 5 years, but it saddens me to see that only 7000 people were in protest.

Come on, there was 1/2 a million for the anti Iraq rallies, I guess since the public couldn't stop the government on that one they just can't be bothered anymore.

I never realised Australia had a problem with an over controlling government until I moved to Europe.

Something has to be done before you all just give up all of your rights!

No, you aren't permitted to copy your (copyrighted) book 50,000 times and sell it, nor can you distribute it all over the Internet. Neither are you permitted to do that with DVDs - that's not the really the point. If you buy a book, you can skip straight to page 30 and start reading there if you want. If it has promotions for other books at the back, you aren't forced to read those before you can start reading (or resuming) your book. So why should we have to put up with being forced to watch commercials before being allowed to access the actual content on DVDs?
