Comment AI has become the battle of the Billionaires (Score 2) 47

This projection argues that the price to pay in the AI innovation game is at least $100 billion. This means the war will be between a handful of mega-corps rather than innovative startups. Has any other disruptive tech cycle in history be so exclusively top heavy? This is why I am convinced someone, a startup, will burst the bubble from the low end.

Comment Re:Quit netflix (Score 1) 22

I stopped subscribing because we travel a lot and every time I try to login I get a message saying this is not part of my household. It's insulting. Screw you Netflix!

I've always been able to work around this inconvenience. Netflix does this because they were losing business to people sharing their password with their non-paying friends. How would you handle the same situation if you were running Netflix?

Comment 'Low performers' stuck in soul killing jobs (Score 1) 52

There are some innovative projects at Microsoft. I'm sure jobs working on innovative GenAI models offer so much inherent reward that their staff stay motivated and engaged. For every job like that, there are probably 2 more jobs doing soul killing work like keeping Microsoft Word functioning on 10 year old lap tops. Folks in those roles move slow because the work is boring. Upper management sees them as a cost center and starts trying to make them work faster with PIPs. That kind of environment is awful and it is why I won't consider jobs in the mega-tech companies any more.

Comment Continue towards a more liberal church (Score 1) 181

I am a cradle catholic. The church of my childhood in the 70's was trending towards a more affirming and accepting church on the heels of Vatican II. I hope the college of cardinals continues that trend with their next selection. They must force the 'return to the Latin mass' rightwing nutjobs or they will face empty pews and empty collection plates in the years ahead of us.

Comment Re:fuck Value Pricing (Score 1) 55

You make a really good point. I was in Maui on vacation a few year's back and most of the beach hotels in Wailea were sold out to an internal SAP sales team conference. The headline entertainment one night was a private Katie Perry concert. I'm certain the private pricing scheme you describe led to the kind of wealth SAP can lavish on their sales people.
