I found the above statement interesting too. However, I thought the response might be a little bit harsh.

Isn't the application developer doing to application user a favor by letting them have the software for free? There are a lot of favors to go around, but it seems to me the goal is to get better software. Maybe the person who discovered the bug isn't great in submitting in-depth, concise, and effective bug reports. Whether they have a willingness or capability to improve that skill, they'll never get the chance if 1) developers can't effectively interact with the novice, and 2) there is no effective way to get the bug to the developers. This topic originally started with the discussion about centralized/distributed bug reporting (i.e. getting a gaim error from RH to gaim developers). It would be nice to track the bugs, even if the reporters aren't as helpful as they could be.
