You could say the same thing about the longshoremen who loaded & unloaded ships before containerization. They found jobs, shipping got faster and much cheaper, and fewer product is "lost" either through theft or ineptitude. No I'm not worried about huge proportions of society being unemployed when something better comes along.

Comment Re:You should be using Mercurial instead (Score 2) 82

Professionally, I used Mercurial before I ever started using git. Going to git (when I changed jobs) felt like being given a bucket full of nuts and bolts that you have to use a lot because the workflow just doesn't work as well as Mercurial. I can see that git probably has some benefits when working on open source projects, but in the normal workplace it's the ecosystem that has sprung up around Git that provides the benefits. Git itself is just plain awkward to work with.

Not really. They're probably objecting to the guaranteed 11.25% rate of return. As with all big company deals with government, the companies always rort the govt for as much as possible. There is no incentive to build it cheaply or efficiently, infact the exact opposite - the more money they waste on it, the more money they get back. And where will that money come from? Chances are the electricity users - big users of which are Facebook, Microsoft and Google. I like green energy, but handing out blank checks to get it is stupid.
