Although Multics is quite esoteric, it is not overly complicated. In fact, it can be well understood with the mastery of a few fundamental concepts. What killed Multics was the degree to which it fully utilzed the hardware capabilities of the machines it ran on and the competency of the companys that owned it. It was one of many industries that General Electric has abandoned in its lifetime, and Honeywell, who "adopted" it, never wanted to sell it. It was viewed as competition for its GCOS systems. It is amazing how many Multics systems were sold, since you had to beg the salesforce to sell you one.
