While we in North America may have moved beyond Pre-Win2K systems, I've seen extensive use of Win98 in the poorer parts of South America.
I can certainly understand why Firefox would want to move on from supporting the Win98 environments. I would also presume that most of the users of these Win98 machines in impoverished areas are ignorant of the differences between Firefox, Internet Explorer and the entire concept of Open Source software.
However, I'm still bothered by the decision. Firefox is likely the first piece of open source software these users will come across. If provides an example of software that isn't magical but is as accessible as their curiosity allows.
I suppose I'm being idealistic and romantic, but this decision strikes me as a little sad...Of course, I could just learn to code for the Win98 platform myself were I that bothered by it...
