That night, David was up until 5AM working on the code, he got it working, and he'd left it running on his machine. He left a note on SteveB's office door saying that he should stop by David's office. When David got in the next day (at around 8AM),

he saw that his machine had crashed, so he knew that Steve had come by and seen it.
