That seems odd because the Viper 770 seems
to have double the hardware power. Is the TNT
driver just that far behind the 3Dfx driver or
is it more of an architecture problem that XFree86
4.0 will solve?

Did you compile the TNT Mesa library yourself?
Did you use the latest release or CVS archives?
