This my not be as scarey or negative as people think. Most of us IT types tend to take a negative spin on things.
A company I previously worked for, did the same thing, although on a much smaller scale. These meetings happened once every 3 months and it seemed to be pretty pointless.
Managment fobbed off any minor problems with the usual respons of "deal with it", and the major ones made slow progress, if any. After about the third meeting, the geeks got together and decided it was time to plan an attack. The plan was to only present problems which could be fixed without placing blame, and that could be fixed or at least "see progress" within 3 months.
Otherwise, in the words of my father: choose your battles. Even though there may be a many problems, its best that your department stick to something acheivable, and get EVERYONE to sing the same tune, to the one or two things.
By having everyone talk about the same thing to different levels on the same night, the problem will be attacked on many levels, and in my situation, I was surprised how successful the outcome was.

Journal Journal: Life or something like that.

Moving along with the gateway install, it now boots for itself, the kernel is fine.. Rebuilding the services now, it has been very slow, but its getting there. I've decided to keep a "logbook" of what i have done to get the system up and running.. this way I might learn something from what I have done. One of the users that I provide wifi access to for $25.00 AUD a month.. is bitching at me, to have it working... Gentoo can take some time to get up and running, doing the compile and all...

Journal Journal: Dead Hardware

Today, marks the day that the 12gb seagate in my gateway (mail.subverted.net) has passed away. I have moved data from the gateway to the 80gb (1 partition at the moment). Does the lilo limitation of "image must be in the first 1024 cylinders" of the disk still apply ? If it does.. I'll have to temporarily move the drive over to twins, so that I can partition it and then move the data back to the drive.. Ugly. Alternatively, a program that could "move" a file to the first 1024 cylinders would

Journal Journal: Moving my blog

This is my first entry on this new journal. The main reason is that I have decided that maintaining the blog was a bit of a pain in the arse, and I tend to want to keep changing things.

This way, I keep the same look, let slashdot take care of the beatings, and get to hide myself online that little bit better. I still plan to host things on my DSL box, but this is a way that I dont have to worry about maintaining another site.
