dimdim.org is an open source web meeting tool. more geared for presentations but it does have capabilities to view desktops remotely (i didn't see any control function... yet). I have used it to help customers in the past... allowing me to keep all $125.00/hr that I charge on a remote session :)

Anyone know of a simple-to-use and (preferably) free service that would allow for remote viewing/control of their PCs? I know there's WebEx and GoToMyPC, but I hate to pay for something I'd use once every two months. I also know about VNC, but trying to walk someone through opening up ports on their router that thinks their Internet is broken when their homepage gets changed is not realistic. Anyone know of anything that would be easy to set up and use?"

Amen. Spending time in a few divisions of IT, I can relate to your artical. Shortly after accepting a full-time spot under bad management I wanted out. I spent most of my day slinging mud and dealing with issues completely unrelated to Information Technology. I aimed at a department job outside the IT realm because of how disturbed I became with the 'sub-culture'. Well... In the end I was let go becuase "I have too much back bone". IT dept.'s are for the birds. Especially if it is for a government entity.
