Comment While not completely blind... (Score 1) 31

I am visually impaired. Blind in one eye, 25% vision loss in the other. Optic nerve damage so glasses don't help. My solution after trying all sorts of apps to try and make it easier to read my screen, was to simply buy larger screens. I went with dual 55" screens and since then Ive had little problems. occasionally I have to resort to the windows magnifier.

In the end moving my texts off of a phone screen onto my pc lets me function better.

The options are not great for the visuallly impaired but Ive found ways to work around it.

I agree. I do have the hardware to support 4k but many games in 4k drive my 3080ti to 80 degrees at 60FPS. Some games like Farcry 6 struggle to get 60fps in 4K. As a result mostly I run games in 2K. I suppose if you set games on their lowest settings you might be able to maintain 4k at a higher rate but 8K would be at pitiful frame rate. that is not the point of having a high end video card. You want to see the best and the tech is not there yet.

I signed up for my first and second appointment on the web. Got the 1st show no problem but while i was leaving the place they gave me a card that had a different date 12 days earlier for my 2nd shot then my second appointment. I got my vaccine at the new second appointment but come time for my scheduled second appointment and i got texts like i should go get my 2nd shot. I canceled the original 2nd appointment but it was a hassle to do and I suspect less computer literate people would just skip canceling the appointment which might show up as people missing their shots.

Comment I'm having few problems with the game. (Score 5, Informative) 120

The problem was they tried to release a next generation game for the previous generation consoles. Just a bad idea in general and they delayed everyone else to do it.

I play on a PC. Admittedly on the high end but Ive not had one crash yet. Ive had a few bugs. Nothing game ending. Sure it runs like crap in 4k but in 2K on ultra with raytracing on I'm at a steady 60FPS with smooth game play even when driving around at 150kph. I know the main story is not as long as it could have been. Some people say they finish it in 15 hours but they aren't getting the full game doing so. Pop up that map and you will find lots of missions depending on your street credit which you earn doing side missions. I'm 30 hours into the game and am still having a blast at the game and aren't anywhere near the end of the main quest.

The one thing I did do was the community fix for AMD optimization which greatly increased my speed. (Threadripper 3960x). It ran fine before but I can see the difference in cpu utilization it made.

Comment Shortsided. (Score 2) 123

I got my first hard drive for Apple 2 in the early 80's. The salesman said I would never be able to fill up its massive 5MB hard disk. I was also told I would never need more then 2400 baud. 8K may not be a thing today. The downloads would be insane and few people could run it now anyway. That being says technology changes. The internet connections will get faster. AT&T is already rolling out 2gb Internet. In 5 years that may be slow and 8k will have a larger following and new GPU tech will enable it. 5 years is 2 generations of video cards.

So in end not today but saying never is shortsighted.

Comment My backup solution. (Score 1) 385

This is probably not a good idea for a work environment where people don't have the knowledge to connect a drive. I have 4tb Sata3 drive I use for backup. Its mounted in the machine. When i want to backup I just pull the back cover off the machine and plug in the drive. Works like a champ. Not so hot if you have a fire but if your just worried about losing data normally it is possible solution. I do this twice a month. Once a quarter I backup everything up to another a loose hard drive I mount via USB Cradle. That drive ends up in the fire safe.

This has kept me from losing data for many years. The drives i use to backup to in the machine I replaced with a faster hard drive last year but the loose ones are older 2TB drives I had for many years.

I have a large screen setup. 46" on the bottom, 42" on the top. When I spend long days at the computer I often move windows to the top screen and use my system standing up. The desk is still low so funky angle on the keyboard but when my back starts to hurt or my legs fall asleep I stand up and use the system. It's a welcome change from sitting. I highly recommend it. I split the day, about 3/4's of it sitting. This has worked great for me thusfar.
