This is the UK, where you pay regular fees simply for owning a television

In the UK a TV Licence is required for receiving television signals (or using BBC Iplayer) but is not required for simply owning a television. You do not need a licence for a TV you own but don't watch or use for other purposes such as monitoring CCTV or watching prerecorded media.

and the more capable the television the higher the fees.

Yes, black and white or colour.

So your solution is not at all fair to the owner of the old television.

Only if they don't already own a colour TV!

Facebook still has a viable product that advertisers want to buy. All these companies are doing is reducing demand and allowing their competitors to buy at cheaper rates. As long as Facebook can make it appear that they are listening whilst quietly reminding the boycotters how much their rivals are buying then we should see a return to the fold fairly quickly.

If you really want to hurt Facebook you need large numbers of users to boycott the platform making the product less desirable to advertisers.
