One way to analyze a measure like tariffs is to see who will benefit. If you follow Martyanov, he makes a plausible argument that Europe will be the biggest loser -- these are export dominated economies for whom trade with the US is a vital support to their economy. What they depend on, they will now be taxed for.

Comment Government use of unreported vulnerabilities (Score 1) 55

Yes, all sides do it. In fact, it was a CIA conference on Chinese surveillance that led Edward Snowden to investigate surveillance in the US -- also mandated by law (c.f. CALEA) and recently these mechanisms were penetrated by bad guys, leaving egg on the face of the US security establishment, for the nth time.

In the same line as placing biowarfare research facilities there. In this case, it creates a direct threat to Russia: what kind of nuclear materials is the US-led consortium assembling? It's also an ideal target for a false-flag activity. Destroy other infrastructure targets like Nordstream, suggests one US politician. Blowing up a large source of nuclear fuel, perhaps by some terrorists or putative Russian saborteurs, will open the door to other nuclear "surprises." It's of a piece with the Poland bases capable of launching intermediate-range nuclear-capable Tomahawk missiles at Russia -- the same class of weapons banned by the most successful, long-lived nuclear disarmament agreement, the Intermediate range Nuclear Forces treaty. Oh, the treaty the US abrogated during Trump 1. NATO was the first to use depleted-uranium antitank rounds in the conflict, and it is Ukraine, supported by NATO, that has sent shells at the Zaporoghe nuclear power plant, threatening to interrupt power to the cooling ponds.

As I understand it, the safety profile of the mRNA carrier lipids is not well characterized. I recall reading that one lipid nanoparticle source used in the Covid vaccines specified "not for medical or veterinary use" on the data sheet. At any rate, this technology does not have a long history of use in humans, and like microplastics, lipid nanoparticles are transported throughout the body, crossing the blood brain barrier as well as individual cell membranes.

But that won't protect me from accidents caused by algorithm failure by other auto-braking cars. Government needs to see a large trial with unambiguous benefits *before* approving or mandating the technology. As it is, the mandate will be using innocent drivers as guinea pigs.
