Comment Re:My report: 6 months without using Flash (Score 0) 167

Thanks for sharing your experience. This is something that I've been thinking of doing for months. I left Google in the place of startpage.com for search over 6 months ago and love it. Don't see why leaving Flash for good won't work. I am a professional web developer and PHP programmer and we refuse to code for flash anymore and are totally fine. Great writeup and glad to hear that it's working for you.

Comment Not Sure if universal passphrase is the answer (Score 0) 332

Knowing the password for all free wifi networks will still allow people to do man in the middle attacks and I think that each network should have a password and display it (i.e. A business providing free wifi should encrypt, but have a sign within the business displaying the password).

Slashdot's Disagree Mail 167

I get a lot of mail from obviously unbalanced people. Enough in fact, that I've often wondered if there was a institution that allowed their patients to only read Slashdot. We've even had a few visits from some questionable individuals. A man who tried to bribe me with a car if I let him "reverse engineer" Rob Malda's Life comes to mind. He insisted on Rob being present for the process and couldn't explain to me what it entailed, so I suggested he leave. The personal visits are rare, however, compared to the amount of mail I get. Here are a few of my favorites; let's hope these people have started to take their medication. Read below and don't be worried if you don't understand all of it.

Comment Windows Vista - So What? (Score 0, Flamebait) 292

Who cares? I have been beta testing versions of Windows since Chicago (later came to be known as Windows 95). I have been using Vista for quite some time now and even though some things seem better such as the new start menu and the way that 3D rendering is handled, I am not blown away. I would much rather run Ubuntu Linux with Compiz and OpenGL. Vista is still bloatware and it will be really interesting to see how quick the OS is ridden with worms, spyware, and viruses. I for one don't plan on giving Microsoft more money for their software until they release an OS that is totally useful and original.
