Journal tuxette's Journal: this year's damage... 12

Blah. I finally got the courage to step on the scales and see what all the Christmas food and homemade ice cream has done to me. Up 2 kg. Yuck. I think it's mostly water retention from all the salt I've been consuming combined with the results of not eating enough fiber-rich foods. But still...

Things will get back to normal within the beginning of January so I really shouldn't worry too much. But I hate this bloated look and feeling. Especially when hitting the sales racks for some new clothes. I think I'll go shop in those places that have skinny mirrors hahaha...

I guess buying that ice cream maker for you for christmas was a terrible mistake. Maybe I should have bought a year's supply of diet powders instead? >:-)

    • Maybe I should have bought a year's supply of diet powders instead?

Hah. If I had that, I would have to consume the "light but tasty" meals according to the plan, meaning you would have to consume the same thing, as I would not make two different meals ;-)

  • Ice-cream, pepperkake, ribbe, julepølser and medisterkaker... and you got away with only 2 kg increase in weight? :)
    • I think it would have been worse had I not been doing all that physical labor volunteer work. I got quite a bit of exercise out of that...
      • Yes... spending a lot of time in the kitchen is good for a woman. >;-)

I've been neglecting my gym workouts for almost three weeks now. Nothing organized - just military presses, bent-over rows and curls with the barbell at home whenever I feel like stretching a bit. I've done lots of walking and biking, though. I'm sick of the bloat-inducing medication (I've gained about 5 kg ever since I started taking it), but fortunately it'll end soon.

      • yeah it's amazing how a little 15 minutes a day of workout will virtually eliminate weight gain... Weight loss takes a bit more control on the diet, and a moderate level of exercise (too much an you'll be putting on muscle which will negate the weight loss, as it's far denser than fat)
        • too much an you'll be putting on muscle which will negate the weight loss

But then again, if you've managed to build muscle it's easier to get rid of the remaining fat which, I suppose, is the goal of most people on a diet.

        • It's very difficult for women to put on muscle, especially when over the age of 30. My weights workouts usually last an hour and as I have gotten considerably stronger lately, I haven't really packed on any muscle.

Hmm...reminds me, I have to go out and buy a bucket of creatine one of these days...

          • Interesting....

Why is it after 30? I guess for guys it makes sense as the Testosterone levels tend to decrease after the age of 28, but for women it should always stay the same.

Or did I miss something? :)

  • it's cold so your metabolism is saving energy and storing up on fat for leaner times. At least that's what I keep telling myself.
    • Cold I wish! It's back to above-freezing and rain here in Oslo :-(
      • The body doesn't really know that. It just knows that January is coming and it's busy converting carbs to fat 24/7.

The weather here (CT) is mixing bitter cold (single digits F) with nice warm fall weather (60s) on a rotating 5 day cycle. Very annoying.
