Journal tuxette's Journal: red, red everywhere... [edited] 7

I give up. I can't watch this crap anymore. I have never seen such an excruciatingly bad match in my life...

Neither team deserves to be in the World Cup...

(in case you're clueless, I'm talking about the USA-Italia match)

Edit 1: nice elbow by that Italian guy though... I wonder if he trains Krav Maga ;-)

Edit 2: OK, so I couldn't help myself, and watched the last 20+ minutes (I had stopped at the third red card)... color me the red and yellowness of unimpressed. Sheesh. The US, while not playing well, was playing slightly better than the Italians, who had one extra... they are not what they used to be, that's for sure... and WTF was up with the ref?!

*sigh*

Match over. 1-1.

  • As long as the U.S. wins I'll be happy, although I'll agree that the media over-hyped us.
  • but the US got the shorter end of the ref stick. Should not have had the Pope red card. Also, the called back goal was questionable.

The Ghana-Czech match was awesome though.

    • While I didn't see the entire game (only watched the last 20 minutes or so), I saw the highlights after the game and I must say that Pope's second yellow card (don't know about the first one) was entirely deserved. I also think the ref made the right decision in calling back that goal, as that player (was it Pope?) was clearly offside and clearly active in that situation. It's a pity, though, as the US would have deserved to win more than the Italians (who have sucked for two games in a row now; by no accid
      • both americans who were red-carded were going for the ball, not the player. they deserved to win, i'm sorry they didn't.
  • Not my thoughts but quite an interesting read nevertheless: an essay from 3quarksdaily [blogs.com]. They're wondering why Brasil is considered the best team in the world, and why would the Germans support them:

So I got to wondering why was it that not only did around 50 thousand Germans have Brazil tops, but why does this team have the reputation of being so good? I'm not doing a 'US media on Bode Miller' here and extrapolating a trend from one data point, but Germany and Italy combined have more World Cups, and Brazil

  • I will admit that I am an american idiot and my knowledge of pro soccer is weak but from what I have seen in the Italy-US match is sad. Its like how many sports have resulted to developing fast large guys that can give out fouls. Its like instead of trying to work to the goal each team wants to simply hurt the "stars" and then worry about points. But I could be bonked.

It is masked but always present. I don't know who built to it. It came before the first kernel.
