Is there really a point in being on LinkedIn? I considered getting an account there but wasn't really sure if there were any real benefits, except having my name and stuff on yet another social networking site. :-)

Depends on a lot of things -- how valuable networking is to your career, how motivated you are to do this type of things, etc. LinkedIn as a tool is pretty good (and professional, not myspace-like at all).
